A Ukrainian cultural institute is to be established in Berlin. “Planning is currently underway,” said the governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) on Tuesday after a meeting with the Ukrainian Minister for Regional Development, Oleksiy Chernyshev, and Ambassador Andriy Melnyk. “In addition to the individual support of almost 68,000 registered refugees in Berlin, one of the next bilateral cooperation projects is the world’s first Ukrainian cultural institute outside of Ukraine, which we want to found with the federal government and the Ukrainian government in Berlin.”

The meeting with the minister is part of a series of visits to the Red City Hall by Ukrainian government and state officials, Giffey said. “Berlin is very interested in a close exchange and further cooperation, both in terms of help for refugees in Berlin and development aid in Ukraine.”
