According to a survey, the material shortage has worsened in Germany’s industrial companies. In May, 77.2 percent of the companies stated that they had bottlenecks and problems with the procurement of preliminary products and raw materials, as the Ifo Institute in Munich announced on Monday. In April it was 75 percent of the companies.

“The supply chains are under constant stress,” explained the head of the Ifo surveys, Klaus Wohlrabe. The closure of ports in China has further worsened the situation for many companies.

Around every second company affected by a shortage of materials stated that the current corona lockdowns in China had further aggravated the situation. The Ifo explained that the car industry was particularly affected here. The massive disruption of the logistics chains will noticeably delay the economic recovery.
