(Ottawa) Members of the House of Commons observed a minute of silence Thursday in memory of Régis Lavoie and Christopher Lavoie at the initiative of the Bloc Québécois. Their bodies were found the day before near Baie-Saint-Paul.

They had been swept away by the current on Monday while trying to help residents of Saint-Urbain struggling with the floods. This locality is located half an hour north of Baie-Saint-Paul. Régis Lavoie was 55 years old and Christopher Lavoie was 23 years old. The latter had been a volunteer firefighter for a year and a half. His father criticized him for being sent “into a river, in a rowboat, when he couldn’t even swim.”
