Two suspects were arrested in Richfield after a shooting that left two dead.
According the Richfield Police Department Fernando Valdez Alvarez and Alfredo Rosario Solis were taken into custody as suspects Tuesday, just after 6 p.m. They are currently being held at Hennepin County Jail.

Officials stated that the incident occurred between five students from South Education Center who were in a relationship. The victims were aged 19, 17 and 15. The victim, aged 15, died of injuries sustained during the shooting. The 17-year old was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with critical conditions. The 19-year old did not sustain any serious injuries.

Richfield Police stated that the shooting was not accidental and that there is no lingering threat to Richfield’s community.

Jay Henthorne, Police Chief, said, “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the students and staff, community members and our law enforcement partners who came together to bring about a swift resolution of a terrible incident.” I cannot praise enough the many federal, state, local, and county emergency response personnel who came to Richfield. It was a poignant reminder of the extraordinary dedication and bravery of our first responders to our communities, especially during times of greatest need.

SEC is an alternative school that is part of Intermediate District 289. The school will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

SEC families were notified via email that students would return to school Friday to grieve, heal and learn from the tragedy.
