Borussia Dortmund separates from coach Marco Rose. This was announced by the Bundesliga soccer club from the Ruhr area on Friday. “This day is not an easy one for all of us, because the mutual respect among each other was, is and remains great,” said BVB Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke according to the club’s announcement.

“After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realize that we didn’t get the most out of our opportunities in many areas.”

Rose had taken over Borussia just before last season. He finished second in the table with BVB, but could not seriously threaten FC Bayern Munich at the top of the table. With a lead of eight points, Bayern became German champions again this year.

In the Champions League, BVB was eliminated after the preliminary round. In the subsequent qualification for the knockout phase of the Europa League, Dortmund failed at eventual finalists Glasgow Rangers. In the DFB Cup it was over after the round of 16 at FC St. Pauli.
