The Opelika Police Officer who was severely injured by a driver’s vehicle on Wednesday, February 2nd, remains under arrest.

Jarren McKay, 33, is wanted by the Opelika Police Department from Smiths Station (AL). Allen is wanted on charges of Assault in the First Degree, Failure To Render Aid and Possession Of a Controlled Substance. Allen was last seen near Exit 51 of Interstate 85 in Auburn, AL.

According to investigators, the Opelika Police officer responded to a call from Kroger at 2460 Enterprise Drive regarding a driver returning a cart. The suspect refused to get out the car upon reaching Tiger Town’s grocery store. He then drove backwards and threw the officer to the ground.

Additional units were dispatched and rescue personnel responded on the spot. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Shortly after the incident, the Auburn Police Department found the vehicle of the suspect, a white SUV. Multiple agencies are currently searching the area for the suspect, south of Interstate 85 and Auburn Tech Park.
