Around 2,900 new apartments were approved in Berlin in the first three months of this year. That was more than 28 percent less than in the same period last year, as the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office announced on Thursday.

Most of the permits relate to apartments in apartment buildings. This is also where the largest decline compared to the previous year can be seen. According to the statisticians, 325 new apartments are planned in single and two-family houses. That is 4.5 percent more than in the first quarter of 2021.
