In Berlin, the public prosecutor’s office is now investigating 379 corona test centers. It’s all about cheating with tests that never happened. That said Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) in the Interior Committee of the Berlin House of Representatives. Here alone, Berlin expects total damage of 25 million euros.
Overall, the internal administration even expects damage of 142 million euros from fraud in the corona pandemic, for example from fraudulent corona aid. According to Spranger, there are currently more than 10,000 procedures in this context. More than 2,400 procedures are about falsified vaccination certificates or certificates for mask exemptions.
Just a few days ago, the Berlin police took action against a gang of fraudsters. Investigators searched ten apartments and offices in the Berlin districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Tempelhof-Schoeneberg as well as in Brandenburg, according to police and public prosecutors. The police confiscated evidence such as business documents and storage media and also around 7.5 million euros.
